Free SSL certificates: how they work

Every website and mailbox at HostRiser gets a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt, so your site loads securely over https:// with the padlock in the browser.

  • Automatic: the certificate is issued once your domain points to HostRiser.
  • Renews itself: certificates are renewed automatically before they expire.
  • Covers email too: mail.yourdomain.com is secured for webmail and email apps.
  • Monitored: our systems check every hour and fix missing certificates automatically.

Seeing a "Not secure" warning?

Most often your domain has only just been pointed to us. Wait an hour and refresh. You can also request it yourself: control panel → your website → Security → SSL certificates.

Want to use your own paid certificate? Install it in the same SSL certificates section.
